Okay So This Game Actually Scared Me a Little

I wasn't planning on getting freaked out by a browser game between classes but here we are. Granny unblocked is this horror survival game where you wake up locked inside some old lady's house, and your entire job is to find a way out before she catches you. That's it, that's the whole premise, and somehow it's stressful enough that I actually held my breath the first time I heard her footsteps on the stairs.

You've got five days to escape, which sounds like a lot until you realize Granny hears literally everything. Drop something, step on a creaky floorboard, open a squeaky door too fast — she's coming for you. My friend Zara was watching over my shoulder while I played and legit yelled at one point, which got us both weird looks in the library. Worth it though.

Controls Are Simple, Staying Calm Is Not

The controls themselves aren't complicated at all, it's your own nerves that make the game hard.

Move – WASD or Arrow keys Interact/Pick up items – left click Crouch (to move quietly) – usually Ctrl or a dedicated button depending on the version

That's basically the whole setup. No download, no random ads interrupting you mid-scare, you just load it up and you're already trapped in the house. I remember thinking the controls felt almost too basic for how tense the actual gameplay gets, but honestly that's kind of the point — you don't need complicated mechanics when the real challenge is just not panicking.

The Part That Kinda Annoyed Me

Not gonna lie, the map can get confusing early on. You're wandering through this house full of locked doors and weird puzzle items, trying to figure out what key goes where or what item combination actually does something useful, and Granny's shuffling around somewhere close enough that every wrong turn feels like a mistake. There were a couple runs where I got caught almost immediately just because I didn't know the layout yet, which felt less like skill issue and more like the game throwing me in cold. Actually wait, that's not entirely fair, I think that's kind of intentional, it wants you to learn the house through trial and error.

Once you've died a few times though, you start remembering where the crossbow parts are hidden, which doors creak, which rooms actually have useful stuff versus which ones are just there to jumpscare you. There's also her pet spider that shows up eventually which I was absolutely not prepared for. It reminds me a bit of those escape room games mixed with actual horror, except the tension doesn't let up because you're being hunted the entire time instead of just solving puzzles at your own pace.

Half my class plays stuff off classroom 7x whenever the teacher's not looking, and Granny's one of those games that always seems to load without any lag even on the slower school laptops. I usually pull it up on classroom-7x.com during a free period when I want something that actually keeps me on edge instead of just killing time mindlessly.

Anyway, if jump scares and creepy old ladies with crossbows sound like your kind of stress relief, give it a shot. Just maybe don't play it right before a test, past experience talking here.
